As our company celebrates this month ten years of activity, it seems fitting to answer, in this year’s last blog entry, the question I am frequently asked: what does ‘ontonix’ mean?
Ontonix comes from ‘ontology’. Ontology is the philosophical study of the nature of being, becoming, existence, or reality, as well as the basic categories of being and their relations.
Complexity is a property of every system and its importance is comparable to that of energy. Studying the nature of being, existence or reality is difficult without first comprehending complexity and its properties. A quantitative approach to the study of complexity allows us to see the intricate dynamics of natural as well as man-made systems in a totally new light.
‘Ontonix’ can be seen as ‘computational ontology’. Just like ‘mechanics’, ‘electronics’ or ‘photonics’, ‘ontonix’ is a branch of technology and science. It is, in fact, a new branch of science.
